The federal government is proposing a garage sale to help offset the deficit. Among the gems up on the block is Plum Island, New York, the former USDA animal-disease research center. Fans of "Silence of the Lambs" may recall that Hannibal the Cannibal received a day on Plum Island in return for his insights into Buffalo Bill, the film's serial killer.
The sale of Plum Island is only part of a piece of the Obama plan. Other items of possible interest include old courthouses and airstrips, vehicles of all types, and even the roads to drive them on.
