Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa plans a November conference in DC

Dear FDD Israel Counter-Terrorism Trip Colleague:

If you still maintain an interest in Middle Eastern and counter-terrorism issues then you should be aware of the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) and the upcoming conference we are sponsoring on November 3-5, 2011 in Washington, D.C. A non-profit dedicated to a marketplace of ideas in Middle Eastern and African studies, ASMEA was founded by Prof. Bernard Lewis and Prof. Fouad Ajami. I have served as the executive director for the past four years while still leading the counter-terrorism seminars.

As in past years, we will address a wide range of historical and current issues unique to the regions including Syria’s Freedom Movement; Saddam’s Archives, Al-Qaeda in North Africa, and: Turkey’s Islamist Path, among others. We also will welcome H.E. Barham Salih, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, as our keynote speaker, and H.E. Ali Suleiman Ajali, Ambassador of Libya, who will deliver remarks during our opening reception. A preview of the schedule is here and you can view the list of papers to be presented here.

The cost for attending the Conference for Members of ASMEA is $75, but I am pleased to extend to you the reduced rate of $60 for full members. To take advantage of this special offer, please call my assistant Caitlyn in the ASMEA office directly at 202.429.8860 and mention that we spoke about the conference and would like to register at the “special ASMEA rate.”

This is an event you don’t want to miss!

I hope to see you in November.

Best regards,
David Silverstein
ASMEA
