Greetings from the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education (HIHE)!
Since we recently confirmed some exciting additions to our upcoming Performance Assessment in Higher Education seminar, I wanted to bring this information to your attention. The program is scheduled for November 6-8, 2011 at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. If your schedule permits, I encourage you to consider joining us.
In addition to four long-standing HIHE faculty members (Jim Honan, Richard Light, Bridget Terry Long, and Judy McLaughlin), Larry Bacow and Richard Freeland have been added to the Performance Assessment line up. Larry Bacow is President-in-Residence at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. This summer, he stepped down as President of Tufts University following ten years of distinguished service to that institution. He will join Judy McLaughlin in a session that examines the role of the governing board in performance assessment. Richard Freeland is Commissioner of Higher Education for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and former President of Northeastern University. Wearing his commissioner’s “hat,” Richard will use his Massachusetts experience as a “case study in progress” to discuss issues and challenges related to implementing state-wide/system-wide performance assessment initiatives. Massachusetts was recently named as one of eight states participating in the Quality Collaboratives project, funded by the Lumina Foundation for Education and organized by the Association of American Colleges and Universities. The project aims to help the states raise (and document) student achievement levels and college-completion rates.
You can register for the seminar at http://www.gse.harvard.edu/ppe/programs/higher-education/portfolio/performance-assessment.html. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about the program.
Thanks and best wishes,
Joe Zolner
