Higher Ed Class Struggle: A tenured faculty member's insensitive comments have drawn a backlash in the blogosphere... but do they reveal what many tenured faculty feel?

The Letter:
http://chronicle.com/blogs/letters/is-that-whining-adjunct-someone-we-want-teaching-our-young/

Let me suggest that the author has (rashly?) stated what many tenured faculty really believe and feel. Their own sinecures are threatened by the revolution in higher education content delivery and the uncertainty of working in a financially stressed, over-extended industry.  Don't expect much sympathy for their part-time, contingent colleagues.  Expect instead a class consciousness to come to the forefront with increased starkness.  This letter is only the tip of that iceberg.

Marx wouldn't be surprised.

Time is running out to enroll in my IP webinar

SOcial Darwinist Ayn Rand presumably would approve.

Obviously they don't think so.

When is enough enough?

California's legislators have a  "yes means yes" law.  How will people prove that the "yes" happened? Do I exchange text messages with my date?

Well, I suppose if Howard Cosell could be present at Woody Allen's wedding night in "Bananas," having a notary present on a date is equally possible.

Latest media underwear bundling: Americans in Syria

So now the big story of the week is a handful --- 140 at last count --- American citizens fighting on one side or another in Syria.  It happened in much larger numbers during the Spanish Civil War, when there was a Lincoln Brigade in action on the republican side.  Is 140 a "disturbing amount of western support"?  I hardly think so.  Let me dare to suggest that these young men are no loss to our city streets.  Let them go and be violent in Syria, says I.  We have much, much bigger issues to deal with than this latest media distraction.

The federal assault on sexual assault is spawning a cottage industry.

In fact I am a part of that industry.  Join me in late October and early November for my back-to-back webinars are handling sexual assault cases:

Expect new federal regs in November that will mandate sexual-assault training programs.

The anticipated regulations will apply to students and employees alike.
