Historians and literacy theorists regularly point to the preservation of accumulated knowledge as one of the reasons why civilizations advance so quickly once they move from primarily oral to literate cultures.
Now that we have advanced into secondary orality, it remains to be seen what value is to be found in preserving a record of past events.
All I know is that thanks to the wonders of digital video, Suzanna and I didn't have to shoot this timeless piece of Americana yet again, because we already had a copy in the can.
