Oxford University seeks infrastructure analyst

Posted on behalf of Jim Hall at Oxford

Infrastructure Network Analyst - Oxford University

Applications are invited for the post of Infrastructure Network Analyst within the multi-partner EPSRC funded Infrastructure Transitions Research Consortium (ITCR) (ITRC).The post is associated with Work Stream 2, which is developing new approaches to analysing the risks of infrastructure failure. There is a particular emphasis upon the effects of interdependence between infrastructure networks upon the probability and consequences of failure. The analysis will inform the development of long term strategies for adapting national infrastructure networks to the effects of climate change. This is a full-time post for 30 months in the first instance.

The ITRC project is led by Prof Jim Hall FREng in Oxford University and the postholder will work directly with Prof Hall.

The postholder will be responsible for development and implementation of a methodology for analysis of the probability and consequences of failure in national infrastructure networks (energy, transport, water, waste and ICT). This will be based on a combination of methodology from reliability theory, graph theory and risk analysis. It will involve collaboration with researchers and academics in the ITRC partner institutions. The postholder will be expected to publish the model in peer-reviewed literature and interact closely with a high profile group of project partners in disseminating the research.

The successful applicant will have an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Mathematics or another quantitative science subject and a PhD or equivalent research experience of systems modelling or risk analysis. A track record of generating innovative modelling solutions to real world problems is also essential.
