"No one who works full-time should have to live in poverty." – President Obama
President Obama is right:
America is still the greatest country in the world, but right now for
too many the American Dream is more of a dream than a reality.
President
Obama has a proposal before Congress to raise the federal minimum wage
from $7.25 to $10.10, a significant increase that would mean a lot to
many working Americans. For many people, it could mean the difference
between being able to pay the bills or getting evicted while working two
or three jobs.
America was built on hard work—it’s time we stepped up and showed how much we value it.
Right now Republicans in Congress are blocking the President’s bill, despite studies showing no negative impact on the economy.
Raising the minimum wage should be a no-brainer.
The current minimum wage hasn’t kept pace with productivity or average
wages—and it certainly hasn’t kept pace with the growth of wages to the
top 1%.
Many Democratic-led
states across the country have already taken action to raise the minimum
wage in their states, but nevertheless millions of Americans still work
for a wage that puts their standard of living below the poverty line.
It’s time we gave more workers the dignity they deserve.
Sincerely,
Jordan Wilson
