Bill would allow some state universities in PA to leave the 14-school system

West Chester U. would probably be the first to go.

For years, colleagues of mine in the public universities across the country have complained that "We used to be state supported, then we were only state affiliated, and now we are merely state located."

From what I have heard, the legislator putting this PA proposal forward sees West Chester as able to prosper on its own, while repaying the system and the state for the value of the school's property.  Meanwhile, he argues, this will free up funds for less prosperous sisters in the state system.
