I might add that perhaps contingent faculty should play a larger role in the distribution of the college payroll too.  What full-time, tenured faculty --- most of whom are liberal by all reports --- don't like to recognize is that, while many of them receive handsome salaries and generous benefits, the teaching-load slack is picked up by adjuncts who earn a pittance, generally receive no benefits, and frankly are looked down upon by their tenured colleagues.  This is the largest disparity requiring a remedy, if fairness to adjuncts is your goal.
