With his family by his side, Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th president of the United States by Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts, Jr. in Washington, D.C., Jan. 20, 2009. More than 5,000 men and women in uniform are providing military ceremonial support to the presidential inauguration, a tradition dating back to George Washington's 1789 inauguration. Obama talked about it in his inaugural address yesterday.

Dems and Republicans agree on more visas for skilled workers.  Going further than that will entail a dog fight.

My own view:  The U.S, probably is stuck with the estimated 12 million illegals currently in country.  Legalizing them probably makes sense.  What I don't want to see is a repeat of 1986, when the idea was: legitimate those already on the ground but keep others out.  Uncle Sammy did the first but grossly failed to enforce the second.  This an additional 12 million today.

Believe me when I say that I feel no prejudice against immigrants from any nation.  Nor do I fail to sympathize with their goals in sneaking onto the U.S.  But I believe that the job market will continue to be tight as Paul Ryan's butt, AMerican kids and their families will continue to be challenged in finding affordable education, and our social welfare system will continue to be stretched and under fir from the right.  Given all these factors it is sheer folly to allow our population to grow much beyond it current 315 million.  Most especially, we don't need any bottom feeders.
