Risk Management: The kid's cross to bear

Apparently the latest fad making the social network rounds is the salt-and-ice challenge.  First, your "friends" put some salt on the selected portion of your epidermis.  Next comes ice cubes, then pressure, Pain, it's said, is instantaneous.  The test is who can stand it the longest.  One 12-year old in Pittsburgh earned himself what may be a permanent scar in the shape of a cross recently.  Tough kid!

Does this tell us something about why young men (1) play football and rugby, (2) enlist in the military, and (3) are responsible for most violent crime?
