- Incidents have increased from 5 per year to 15 per year in the past couple of years
- In some instances, police have waited outside the school or other venue, while the shooter did his dirty work.
- In one out of six incidents, civilians at the scene subdued the shooter
As a consequence, advanced thinking trainers are teaching police and civilians how to better respond to active shooters. Police
- Need to take action individually and not wait for the swat team to arrive
- They need to have rifles or shotguns in the cars
- They need to have the necessary body armor on board
- They need to know basic EMT techniques
Civilians
- Need to internalize the protocol of run, hide, defend… in that order, and
- In my opinion, key employees need to be trained and authorized to carry weapons.
