The U.S. and Britain appear to be moving relentlessly in the direction of military action against Syria. Meanwhile, the UN is trying to investigate the allegations of gas attacks under the most difficult of conditions in Syria, where UN investigators are being shot at. Commentators I've heard say that Sarin is a relatively simple gas to concoct. (Recall the subway terrorist attack in Japan years back.) This being the case, can we rule out one or another rebel group perpetrating the attack to draw the Western powers into the conflict? I think not.
Why am I getting a creeping tingling on the back of my neck, accompanied by flashbacks to 2003 and the letters "WMD"? And why might John Kerry want to give Colin Powell a quick call?
