US-Soviet Hot Line established 50 years ago today

Motivated by the Cuban Missile Crisis of the prior October, the U.S. and the USSR established a "Hot Line" between JFK and the Soviet Premiere to help ensure that a nuclear war wouldn't ever happen inadvertently or out of a misunderstanding.
