Dear Jim,
For years, the millionaires who fill Congress have continued supporting their ultra-rich corporate buddies with our tax dollars. But now we have a chance to change that. Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) has introduced a much-needed bill that would stop taxpayer subsidies for excessive executive pay and help restore fairness to the American economy - but it will take serious grassroots action to stop these corporate subsidies. Tell Congress: Stop taxpayers subsidies for CEO pay. Click here to automatically sign the petition. We’re all familiar with the rise in CEO pay -- but what you might not know is that our tax dollars are fueling this outrage. Between 1979 and 2005, the richest 1% of American households saw their after-tax incomes grow by 230% while the middle class grew barely at all.3 What’s worse, our tax dollars are actively subsidizing this growing wealth gap. Corporations can deduct executive pay from their federal tax bill, meaning that every dollar that goes to fat-cat CEOs means less money to fund schools and hospitals and higher taxes on the working and middle class, over $9.7 billion every year.4 The Income Equity Act would help restore sanity to CEO compensation. Instead of giving corporations tax breaks for overpaying their CEOs, this bill would redirect our tax dollars where they belong. Pass the Income Equity Act. http://act.credoaction.com/go/919?t=6&akid=8176.3371131.3azFmo Thank you for your support. Matt Lockshin, Campaign Manager CREDO Action from Working Assets
