Let's assume that 9/11 happened regardless of who won in 2000. How might Al Gore have handled things differently. I think it's almost certain he would not have invaded Iraq. A decade-long bleeding of the US military and treasury would never have happened. Our national debt would be a lot lower. And who can say what good things for the environment he might have done with some of that money?
Also, he might have paid some attention to regulatory matters. Perhaps the real-estate bubble, the derivative scams, and the Great Recession all could have been avoided.
But we'll never know.
