Here's why:
1. Most of us don't think we can do much about it at this point in time... that train has left the station.
2. What we might try will cost a fortune.
3. We need our jobs... we need our cars (I could not have worked where I do for the past 16 years without mine)... right now we need the fossil fuels we have, not the promises of clean energy in some distant future (natural gas has never been more abundant or cheaper).
4. The most significant problem is the population explosion, which no on seems to want to address, and which no one knows how to control.
