Opposed to Citizens United? SIgn this petition.

Dear Jim,
If you think billionaires and wealthy corporations wield too much influence in our political system, read the e-mail below from our friends at People for the American Way.
After you do that, sign their petition backing the recently introduced Government By the People Act, which creates a system of public financing for federal elections so that clean-money candidates can compete in a playing field now dominated by corporate cash.

Matt,
Rep. John Sarbanes (D-MD), Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and others recently introduced the Government By the People Act (H.R. 20). The bill would undo some of the harm of cases like Citizens United by empowering the public over entrenched and deep-pocketed special interests.
As you can imagine, PFAW’s Government By the People campaign is part of this fight, supports these reforms and strongly encourages the passage of the Government By the People Act.
But we need your strength and your voice to drive the message home to Congress that they should act swiftly to pass this bill.
Elections in a democracy should be democratic, but, as you know, the voice of ordinary people is being drowned out by the Super PACs and dark money groups of corporate interests and billionaire ideologues.
The Government By the People Act would help redemocratize elections by:
  • Encouraging the participation of everyday Americans in funding campaigns by providing a $25 My Voice Tax Credit, to help grow the base and influence of small donors.
  • Establishing a Freedom From Influence Matching Fund to amplify low-dollar contributions. Candidates would be eligible for matching funds only by agreeing to limits on large donations.
  • Providing candidates with additional resources in the homestretch of a campaign so that outside special interest spending doesn’t dominate the airwaves and drown out the messages of citizen-backed campaigns.
Our Government By the People campaign, like the whole national movement to get big money out of elections and empower voters, is fueled by the grassroots energy and activism of people like you. We need that energy and activism if we’re going to pass this bill. So please take a brief moment now to add your name to the petition.
Thank you for continuing to do your part to restore Government By the People. After you take action, please help spread the word.
Sincerely,
signature
Michael Keegan, President
