The myth of self-sufficiency

In previous blogs I have pointed out that for-profit colleges are really for-subsidy colleges.  They wouldn't survive for even one fiscal year without federal loans to their students.  In fact, the fines and settlements many of these companies pay for violating federal law on admissions and loan practices have become just a cost of doing business.

The same point can be made about the myth, being perpetuated at the GOP convention, that successful business people are "self-made." As the following article demonstrates, most have has more than a bit of help from their good 'ol Uncle Sam.
