The ground for compromise?

As brinkmanship continues in Washington, it seems unlikely that Obama and Reed will fold on delaying Obamacare.  Who can blame them?  The only reason Raul Labradore (you couldn't get away with that one in a novel or movie) and his Tea Partiers want a one year delay is to try to capture the Senate in the interim.

On the other hand, Republicans aren't wrong in wanting to get the deficit and the debt more in hand.  Some GOP Congressmen are talking about a deal that would involve entitlement curtailments and tax reforms.  So long as their idea of "tax reform" isn't more cuts for their wealthy supporters, this could be an area where both sides might make a deal.

I think the American people, by and large, would applaud them.  I know I would.
