A Clash of Civilizations?

No, not really.

That's what Samuel Huntington of Harvard called the perceived confrontation between the Islamic and Western worlds.  But, in fact, the real clash is between radicals on both sides of the divide.

On the Islamic side we have Al Qaeda and the Taliban.  The latter recently warned that a security pact between the US and Kabul will result in continuation of Afghanistan's endless war. Nothing will satisfy the Taliban except a return to segregation of the sexes and the hideous form of criminal justice that saw stonings and amputations in Kabul's soccer stadium.

And in AMerica?  On last season's "Newsroom" Jaff Daniels" character got in trouble for calling the Tea Party "the American Taliban."

Fictional Broadcaster Will McAvoy wasn't wrong.  Nor are those who are analogizing the Tea Party Congressmen to:

1.  A woman who gives another woman a dress pattern and then criticizes her for making the dress.  "But it looks terrible on you," says the first.

2.  Or a football team that loses a game by 24 points, then demands that 25 points be added to its score, or it'll burn down the stadium.

To say that the Tea Party is a pack of political terrorists may seem a bit extreme.  But I'm not sure it's much off the mark.  Many are religious fanatics, just like their Taliban counterparts.  They are equally undemocratic.  They are reckless and vindictive and relentless.
