Want to know more about MOOCs?

Dear James,
This may come as a shock to many in higher education: only two in 10 Americans are aware of massive open online courses (MOOCs). The latest attempt to draw more attention to MOOCs came this week, when the University of California Irvine announced a MOOC centered around the popular "Walking Dead" comic book series and TV show. The question remains: will latching on to pop culture help increase public awareness of MOOCs? We also have coverage of one university's big gamble on MOOCs, the first-ever synchronous MOOC, and advice about how to create a MOOC without breaking the bank.
