The 2012 Elections: Corbett continues his efforts to gut public education in Pennsylvania

Update on House Bill 1307
Read today's update on PSEA.org about HB 1307, a Corbett-backed proposal for "financially distressed" school districts.

Spoiler alert: PSEA member advocacy helped to remove provisions from the bill that would have increased subcontracting of education support professional services, streamlined the creation of new charter schools, and ended collective bargaining rights.

Thank you for speaking up for our schools, our students, and our professions.

Corbett's charter bill = more cuts for your school

Gov. Tom Corbett wants to create charter schools at will throughout the state, regardless of local community input. This isn’t right.

The governor is spending the final days of the legislative session trying to push through several proposals that would hurt our schools and our students.  We just wrote to you about Gov. Corbett's efforts to
base 50 percent of your evaluation on high-stakes test scores.

Now, the governor is pushing a bill that gives political appointees complete control to authorize the creation of charter schools in our communities, removing local school boards, parents, and taxpayers from the process.

Contact your state legislators now, urging them to oppose this proposal for unaccountable charter school expansion.
