HR: A webinar on wage & hour law

The Advanced Wage & Hour Workshop

Wage-related lawsuits "have exploded nationwide … and undetonated legal landmines remain buried in countless companies.”
-- BusinessWeek

Lawsuits over pay mistakes are the #1 legal risk facing U.S. companies. Wage-and-hour claims are the most common … most costly … and fastest-growing legal attacks on employers.

Think your company is clean? Consider this: Attorney Tony Griffin, author of the popular Wage & Hour Answer Book, has been conducting employers' internal wage-and-hour audits for 30 years and has never found a single employer whose policies and practices were totally in compliance.

Here's the good news: Most mistakes are easy to fix … if you know where to look.

You already know the basics of wage-and-hour law. On July 12, jump right to solving the more complex Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) issues that can REALLY get you and your organization into trouble. This is the advanced version of our popular To Pay or Not to Pay webinar that has educated thousands of U.S. employers.

Among the key topics to be addressed:
  • Exempt or nonexempt. How to truly understand the most confusing exemption categories—administrative and computer exemptions.
  • Independent contractors. The IRS estimates 80% of workers classified at "independent contractors” are actually employees. That's why they've launched a huge Misclassification Initiative. Learn the easy ways to draw the dividing line between contractors and staff.
  • Unpaid hours and unauthorized overtime. How to get a handle on both.
  • Changes to the FLSA rules. Understand the little-known 2011 regulation changes relating to things like employees commuting in a company vehicle and the likely death of fluctuating work week salaried pay plans.
  • Employee tips. Do you know the stringent new requirements on employees' tips? Plus, more investigations are targeting restaurants, bars and other industries where the tip credit is used or low wages are paid.
  • 'Professional plaintiffs.' A shocking number of people are jumping from company to company just looking to cause trouble under several laws, especially wage-and-hour laws. Learn how to spot 'em…and stop 'em.
  • Collective and class-action lawsuits. The FLSA is becoming a launching pad for a huge increase in class-action wage-and-hour lawsuits.

In 2012, U.S. workers are bringing 300% more Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) lawsuits than they did a decade ago … and there are more 50% more DOL wage-and-hour investigators now than in 2008.
Which pay-related mistakes are YOU making? Now's the time to find out … before your mistakes become Exhibit A in court!

Plus, you'll be able to learn from (and pose your specific questions to) two absolute wage-and-hour experts: Tony Griffin, who wrote the book on FLSA compliance (see right), and Al Robinson, a former acting Administrator of the DOL's Wage and Hour Division.

Don't leave FLSA compliance to change … start making your pay decisions with confidence by registering now for this important webinar. Sincerely,

Pat DiDomenico
