WASHINGTON—Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today met with Slovak Interior Minister Daniel Lipšic to discuss the United States’ and Slovak Republic’s continued collaboration to prevent and combat transnational crime and terrorism, enhance data-sharing and protection, and secure the global supply chain.
“Faced with ever-evolving transnational threats, it is critical that the United States and Slovak Republic work together to investigate crime and prevent criminals and terrorists from entering our respective countries,” said Secretary Napolitano. “The Obama Administration remains committed to strengthening our efforts with the Slovak Republic to ensure our mutual security and combat transnational crime, while facilitating lawful trade and travel between our two nations.”
In 2008, the Slovak Republic was designated as a member of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP)—strengthening passenger information sharing and ensuring strict security standards while streamlining travel for Slovak citizens visiting the United States. In today’s meeting, Secretary Napolitano underscored the importance of building on this collaboration.
Secretary Napolitano also reiterated the Department’s continued commitment to securing the global supply chain to facilitate legal trade and commerce and promote our common security. On June 23, Secretary Napolitano signed a joint statement on supply-chain security (PDF, 6 pages - 324 KB) between the United States and European Union in Brussels—reaffirming the Obama Administration’s sustained cooperation with the international community to achieve increased security, efficiency and resiliency for the global supply chain.
