EVENT LOCATION:

The Lecture: After an unprecedented era of stability, the U.S. Supreme Court has undergone a remarkable degree of change. Four new justices have been confirmed to the Supreme Court in the past six years, including a new Chief Justice. Several recent high-profile cases have reinforced perceptions that the Supreme Court is sharply divided along ideological lines. At the same time, doctrinal differences have emerged among justices long perceived as ideological bedfellows. At the same time, the Court's docket has changed in potentially important ways. In this lecture, Professor Adler will look at recent changes on the U.S. Supreme Court and their likely effect on the course of the law.

The Speaker: Jonathan H. Adler is Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Business Law and Regulation at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he teaches courses in environmental, administrative, and constitutional law. He is the author or editor of five books, including a forthcoming volume on Business Law and Regulation in the Roberts Court (Oxford University Press). His articles have appeared in publications ranging from the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy and Supreme Court Economic Review to The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. Professor Adler is nationally recognized expert on the Supreme Court, having appeared on the PBS Newshour with Jim Lehrer, CNN, and National Public Radio, among other media outlets. He is also a contributing editor to National Review Online and a regular contributor to the popular legal blog, "The Volokh Conspiracy."
