SEIU praises Obamacare, as day two dawns

SEIU
James,

As a nurse, I am proud  to share this great news: thanks to the Affordable Care Act, new healthcare marketplaces opened for business today bringing lower-cost healthcare options to  millions of Americans.

And while extremist Republicans would rather see Americans like Susan Wamboldt, a public school employee, go without healthcare than be rational and fully fund the government, their shutdown will not stop the benefits and protections of the law.  And SEIU nurses, doctors and members from across the country are holding events today to make sure their family, friends and loved ones know the facts:

You can go to healthcare.gov to shop and compare healthcare plans or find out more about low-cost healthcare through Medicaid.
  • You can sign up online, healthcare.gov;
  • Over the phone at 1-800-318-2596;
  • or through the mail.
  • New plans take effect as soon as Jan. 1, 2014

Congress passed the Affordable Care Act more than three years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld it more than a year ago, and the law is already working for more than 100 million Americans. The next step in implementing the law means another 25 million Americans can gain the security and peace of mind of having quality, affordable healthcare.

The government shutdown will not stop ACA implementation, but it will cause hardworking people to lose needed income due to furloughs and could ultimately result in damaging our nation's economic health.

Extremists in Congress need to stop playing games with our nation’s economic security and the health of Americans and start putting the best interest of working Americans front and center.

In health,
