If energy independence could pay off the national debt, would you accept a little global warming?

A piece on "Marketplace" (American Public Media) last night seemed to indicate that, while not long ago it seemed America had only 20 years of oil left in the ground, new technologies and rising pricing now indicate a 120 year supply.  This morning I found an article which seems to confirm this, claiming that a Romney win could result in energy independence:

The components of such independence, if indeed it's possible, are Canada's oil sands

and America's enormous coal deposits.

Is it worth adding to global warming in order to be energy independent?  The "Marketplace" piece indicated that this might be the way to get the national debt under control.  Energy independence is also a national security issue.

Consequently, I for one am prepared to risk the results of global warming --- which I doubt we can prevent by any measures we might reasonably take --- for the benefits of energy independence, elimination or significant reduction of the national debt, and for our national security.
