Casey call drug shortages "inexcusable"

Dear James Ottavio,
When nationwide supplies of a life-saving chemotherapy drug for children ran critically low last month, doctors and families were left scrambling.Meanwhile, Congress continues to drag its feet on taking action to cut through the bureaucratic red tape that contributes to preventable shortages of life-saving medications. This is inexcusable.
Americans facing serious illness shouldn’t have to worry that drugs that have been available for decades will suddenly become scarce when they need them the most. That's why we introduced the Preserving Access to Life-Saving Medications Act – and we're asking for your help to turn up the pressure on Congress to pass this important legislation into law.
Make your voice heard – sign the petition urging Congress to immediately pass the Preserving Access to Life-Saving Medications Act.
When drug shortages occur, doctors and nurses are forced to use other drugs, alter treatment plans, and delay critical care.
These devastating shortages are avoidable, but only if Congress acts. By requiring manufacturers to notify the FDA of any incident that would likely cause a drug shortage, as well as directing the FDA to provide up-to-date public notification of actual shortages, we can ensure that hospitals, doctors, and pharmacists have the tools they need to do their jobs. And patients can be confident that they will receive timely and effective treatment.
Make your voice heard – sign the petition urging Congress to immediately pass the Preserving Access to Life-Saving Medications Act.
Thank you,
Bob Casey & Amy Klobuchar
