I hear from my university's IT and library folks that students aren't all that enthusiastic about them, either.  Apparently, under the rules laid down by the recently enacted federal higher ed act, requiring university bookstores to offer textbook rental options, that's the way most students prefer to go.

This is despite Apple's effort to "reinvent the textbook."
