I'm for Obama, as regular readers of this blog no doubt know. But If a Republican is destined to occupy the White House in 2013, I'll take Romney over anybody else in the GOP stable.
Yesterday, the media must have collectively shouted with glee as Romney ostensibly made a terrible "gaff."

Here are my thoughts on the so-called "gaff" for whatever they may be worth:
1. In the course of a presidential campaign, which candidate won;t say a few things that are ill-considered? And so what? (Newt talks like a nut about half the time. I guess if you make it your signature style, then you really can't make a gaff per. "Gaffing" is you.)
2. Romney's right... the poor do have a safety net, and he said he repair it, if he found it had holes. The rich, as we all know, are doing just great, thank you very much. It is indeed the Middle Class which needs help. And not only for our own sake. A nation that guts its middle class can't remain a vibrant democracy for long. If Mitt understands that, then I am even more at ease about him as an alternative to Barack, if a party switch is in the offing.

But let's not be naive, Mr. Romney. There certainly are some rips in that safety net.
