Hello Everyone,
Nominations are open for officers for the section on Security and Crime Prevention. Open are Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary/Treasurer. All offices are two year terms. These terms will begin in March either at the time of the Annual Meeting or soon after.
If you are interested please send your name, the position you are interested in, and a statement of interest to me, Carol Mathews, current Chair. Your statement should include a short bio. All names submitted to me will immediately be turned in to ACJS. Ballots will be sent out from ACJS to the membership.
If you are not interested in holding a position but know someone who would be interested and is a member or who would be willing to join our section in order to participate in the election, please encourage that person to contact me, Carol Mathews.
Our section attempts to address academic interest in the areas of security and crime prevention. During the last two meetings, there has been consistent discussion supporting expansion to include issues of intelligence and technology. Section focus for security is a large umbrella overseeing private security, information security, school security, and Homeland Security. Concern has been that we continue to be clear about our responsibility to attempt to address the relationship of criminal justice and security in each of these areas of security to stay current with legal changes and behavioral trends.
I am including our new website. www.acjssecuritycrimeprevention.com. It is very new and you will see daily changes as we receive information and suggestions from you and the rest of the membership. As you see, we have an area for member contributions . If you have published anything you would like to see on the website, send a reference to it so it can be included. Please limit your work to your favorite three until we get up to speed. If you have developed curriculum or do training that you would like to see on the website, please send it in the form of a title and/or link. This website is meant to be informative as well as a network tool.
We are hoping to get our website member login done this week. When this is finished, you will receive notice. One of the activities upon login in will be the option to join in member discussion boards. One discussion will be to address issues members would like to see on the agenda at the New York meeting.
I’m attaching a list of sessions at the New York meeting that seem to address section interests. If you are presenting at the meeting and your session is not on the list, feel free to contact me and I will add it to the list and redistribute and also will be putting this list on the website.
I hope you will consider serving as an officer. I will be waiting to hear from you!
Carol
