Increasing Your IP Value: Build, Manage and Defend

Companies simply can’t stand pat when it comes to intellectual property—too much is at stake. To do anything less than continually improve innovation capture and refine long-term IP strategy could cause a company to lose ground. The participants at our Los Angeles forum shared their perspectives on how to navigate the fast-changing IP landscape. Part of the challenge is internal: companies must do a better job of quickly capturing their internal inventions. To that end, more corporations are crafting internal networks that encourage invention disclosures beyond the traditional innovation class by drawing all their employees (and sometimes even outsiders) into the conversation. The other half of the equation is external: how to manage and defend IP in the marketplace. The sweeping new America Invents Act changes the outlook significantly, and our panelists break down how to get the most out of the new law, while sidestepping its pitfalls. We hope you’ll share your perspectives on these issues in our ongoing conversation online.
