California State University trustees Wednesday unanimously approved a measure to cap salaries of new executives in the face of steep funding cuts and sharply rising tuition.
The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to enact the new limitations at a meeting in Long Beach.
Trustees and Cal State Chancellor Charles B. Reed had come under criticism for recent salary decisions, including paying the new San Diego State president $400,000 -- $100,000 more than his predecessor.
Now, salaries for new campus presidents will be capped at 10% above that of their predecessor.
The maximum for most presidents would be $325,000 in public funds.
