What's worse, as I've noted in this space before, is the estimate that some 2.5 million American jobs, lost during the Great Recession, will not be regained... either because they have been shipped overseas by our ever-caring corporations, or because they have been eliminated by greater efficiencies.
A piece on NPR this morning also noted, ominously, that the BLS stats only reflect those working and those actively seeking work. The news story suggested that, if those who have given up on finding a new job after years of searching were counted, the real unemployment rate might be more like 9.5%.
