Ron Marlett and Ensign Bafflestir

My old Coast Guard buddy Ron Marlett writes this to me today on Facebook:

Ron Marlett
Thank you Jim. I plan to write a caption for your photo that will include your website and information about your books. I hope to have it up this coming August. I will let you know. The Rebuplicans always say that if the taxes are lower, than the jobs will grow. The taxes are the lowest they have ever been in our history. So where are the jobs? My answer to that question is that it is a Rebuplican myth.

I first ran into Ron when I was in the Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. He was doing a cartoon called "Ensign Bafflestir," and I published a piece on him and his cartoon alter ego in "Shipmates," the monthly magazine of the 9th Coast Guard District, produced by my office at headquarters in Cleveland.
