Popular talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh is no stranger to controversy, and often says dumb things just to get people riled up. But on a recent show, Limbaugh exceeded his own standards and called out first lady Michelle Obama on her body and eating habits.
“I’m trying to say that our first lady does not project the image of women that you might see on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue or of a woman Alex Rodriguez might date every six months or what have you,” Limbaugh said Monday.
However, I was troubled to see the First Lady visiting WallMart and lauding that megafirm for promising to improve the quality of the food on its shelves. It would be nice if the firm did something to improve the lot of its own employees... such as those who are given just enough hours per week to kee them a hair's breadth from qualifying for benefits. I know some of these folks and it angers me. Is she oblivious to this, or merely indifferent? After all, one reason the poor eat poorly is that that's the best they can afford. Put more money into their pockets and you'll get improved nutrition, too, Michelle. Two birds with one stone, Lady.
