U.S. DOJ will take a look at whether he should be prosecuted for federal civil rights violations.

This is what happened in the Rodney King case some 20 years ago.  The LA cops who beat King were acquitted in state court proceedings, but some were convicted in subsequent federal civil rights proceedings.
