NAFSA Teleconference on
Immigration Reform

There is near unanimous agreement that the immigration system is broken. Unfortunately, polarization in Congress has exacerbated the problem because they have been unable to deal with the issue. After years of contentious debate, it is time for immigration reform to move forward, and it is important that any reforms allow the United States to maximize the many benefits of international education.
Though higher education already has a full plate of issues, immigration reform must be included because higher education cannot fulfill its mission without a functioning immigration system. This one-hour teleconference will address international and higher education issues that must be part of immigration reform and the role you and your institution need to play in the debate. Issues that will be addressed include
  • Problems that colleges and universities face in recruiting and hiring international professors, scholars, and researchers;
  • The reliance on foreign graduates;
  • How states taking this issue into their own hands negatively impacts college and university campuses.
Feel free to invite others from your institution (your federal relations officer, dean/provost, faculty, etc.) to join you for the call.
