Sudenanese will vote on dividing the nation

One of the nastiest, bloodiest episodes in Africa's long, brutal post-colonial history may be coming to a climax, as Sudanese in country and abroad vote on whether the south should become a separate country.

An NPR story this morning reported that in cities as far away as my own Philadelphia, exiles --- including so-call "lost boys" who had been drafted into the war as child soldiers --- will be casting their ballots. Division into two separate nations would be a victory for those who fought the vicious civil war for just that goal.
