I am always surprised by the transformation that takes place when we use certain words to describe things. The first one was when Personnel became Human. I loved it and thought it was a great move, because we were dealing with human beings not things and it gave me a sense of being professional like the finance people. We then called ourselves Human Resources and that started a change in what we had been - people seemed to have gone missing again. However, we have been with this for about 15 years and we still have not managed the transition to being a real strategic partner to the business or seen as real professionals. Why is that?
