Secretary Shinseki Steps Down as Leader of the VA
Today, President Obama accepted the resignation of Secretary Eric Shinseki as head of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

"Secretary Shinseki served his country honorably in uniform and as the leader of the VA," said SVA President and CEO, D. Wayne Robinson. "His exit amidst the recent findings surrounding access to healthcare, which are unacceptable, is a signal that our veterans deserve the very best support this nation has to offer. In the Secretary's estimation, it is time for a new leader to take charge and ensure all facets of the department are providing optimal services. We salute him for his long-standing commitment to our veterans and his service to the nation."

Our foremost concern has and always will be the success of veterans in higher education.
When empowered with the right tools and resources, student veterans can and are achieving
success. SVA will aggressively ensure that these supports are in place and we look forward
to working with the new Secretary of the VA to do so. We share our great thanks to Secretary
Shinseki for his honorable service.
